Anointing of the Sick

The anointing of the sick is a sacrament that is administered by the Priest to bring spiritual and even physical strength during an illness.

As with all sacraments, anointing of the sick was instituted by our Lord during His earthly ministry.   In the Bible in the book of Mark, chapter 6, verse 13 it tells how Jesus sent out the twelve disciples to preach and “they cast out demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them”.  Also, in the book of James, chapter 5, verses 14-15, we read “is any among you sick?  Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord…”
